It can be tempting to hibernate when the colder weather hits. However, keeping active and healthy – even when it’s cold outside – is key to keeping the winter blues away. Fortunately, there are a variety of outdoor activities to encourage you outside even when the weather is a little chilly.
Pop on some hiking boots
The UK is blessed with some extremely stunning scenery and there are countless hiking trails meandering throughout the country. From beginner routes to climbs for experienced endurance athletes, there will be a hike to suit your skills and an opportunity to take in some of the most indescribable views.
If you fancy a challenge you could take on Snowdonia or Pen y Fan in Wales. The Lake District is home to the Coniston loop hike and the Jurassic Coast walk is down on the South West coast. For some out of this world landscapes in Scotland head to the Cairngorms National Park and pick up one of the trails sign posted from the various car parks.
Indulge in a swim
Swimming is one of the best forms of exercise for your entire body. Whilst nipping to local leisure centre for a dip is perfectly fine, many of us who favour the outdoors may not find this so appealing.
Exercise pools can be fitted above or inground and enable you to get outside and have a swim without the need for a gigantic pool or a swimming club membership. Hot Tub Barn’s range of Riptide exercise pools are available in a range of different sizes and have a variety of different speeds to suit all different levels of swimmer, even up to serious athletes.
Just like hot tubs, the water is heated for your comfort and some of our models come with a separate built-in hot tub section to soothe your muscles after a swim. With these models, the swimming pool and hot tub can be heated to different temperatures to suit your needs.
Ice skating
Whether you’re close to a local outdoor rink or fancy popping to one of the temporary installations over the winter period, ice skating is a great way to stay fit. As well as feeling very festive, ice skating is a great cardio workout as well as helping you focus on balance and control.
Whilst we aren’t expecting a recreation of Bolero, taking to the ice will have your blood pumping and a flush to your cheeks. Even better, it probably won’t even feel like exercise you’ll be having so much fun!
